Practical Software Carpentries@MIT: Introduction to Python

Software Carpentries aims to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills. This hands-on introductory workshop will cover basic concepts and tools. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.
This workshop will cover an introduction to Python. Python is a common and powerful programming language, with many scientific libraries; this workshop will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation.
No prior knowledge is required; this workshop is geared for complete beginners.
This event takes place in person on the MIT campus over three days, from 10am to 4pm, in 45-801 (Schwarzman College of Computing).
This workshop is part of a three day series on practical software carpentry. Register for 1, 2 or all 3 days:
- Tuesday, Jan 14: Introduction to Unix Shell
- Wednesday, Jan 15: Introduction to Git/GitHub
- Thursday, Jan 16: Introduction to Python

Important: After registering please follow the setup instructions on our website and download the data, the Bash shell, a text editor (Visual Studio Code) and Python ahead of time.
