SUMMARY:Practical Software Carpentries@MIT: Introduction to Python
DESCRIPTION:Software Carpentries aims to help researchers get their work 
 done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research 
 computing skills. This hands-on introductory workshop will cover basic 
 concepts and tools. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and 
 to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.\n\nThis 
 workshop will cover an introduction to Python. Python is a common and 
 powerful programming language\, with many scientific libraries\; this 
 workshop will cover basic concepts and tools\, including program design\, 
 version control\, data management\, and task automation.\n\nNo prior 
 knowledge is required\; this workshop is geared for complete 
 beginners.\n\nThis event takes place in person on the MIT campus over three 
 days\, from 10am to 4pm\, in 45-801 (Schwarzman College of 
 Computing).\n\nThis workshop is part of a three day series on practical 
 software carpentry. Register for 1\, 2 or all 3 days:\n\n\n	Tuesday\, Jan 
 13: Introduction to Unix Shell\n	Wednesday\, Jan 14: Introduction to 
 Git/GitHub\n	Thursday\, Jan 15: Introduction to Python\n\n\nFor more

 workshops during IAP.\n\nImportant: After registering please follow the 
 setup instructions on our website and download the data\, the Bash shell\, 
 a text editor (Visual Studio Code) and Python ahead of time.\n\nThe 
 Carpentries workshops have a code of conduct.\n\nRegistration is open to 
 MIT affiliates\; non-MIT affiliates can register starting December 
 23.\n\nThis workshop is co-sponsored by MIT Libraries and MIT Schwarzman 
 College of Computing.
