Join the MIT Libraries for a Wikidata edit-a-thon! We will introduce Wikidata, manual editing, and editing using QuickStatements. We will share some of the work we have been doing with Wikidata around MIT related items and will provide content for editing. Experienced Wikipedia editors and librarians will be on hand to answer questions and help; new and experienced editors are welcome.

We will also celebrate Public Domain Day and encourage edits using public domain materials. January 1st, 2021 is Public Domain Day – the day when works published in 1925 go out of copyright in the United States and enter the public domain, making them available for anyone to reuse and remix. We will highlight recently uploaded images from the Digital Public Library of America and works that are newly in the public domain.

Schedule:

• 1:00-2:00 - introduction to the editathon and editing Wikidata

• 2:00-2:30 - introduction to the public domain works

• 2:30-3:00 - breakout group for learning QuickStatements

• 3:00-4:00 - editing

Join us to learn how to edit Wikidata and share your research skills and expertise with the world!
